FEMBoSA Delegates attend IIIDEM-MCSC Training Programme

A training programme was organized by India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in collaboration with Malaysian Commonwealth Studies Centre (MCSC), Cambridge University, United Kingdom from the 19 th to the 23 rd of July, 2017.

Inaugurated by the former Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India- Dr. Nasim Zaidi, the capacity building training programme on voter education engaged 15 delegates from the member EMBs of the Forum of the Election Management Bodies of South Asia (Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives and India). With the focus being on ensuring transparent and democratic conduct of elections, and guaranteeing informed and active participation of voters, as an essential civic responsibility, in elections, the training programme included sessions on principles of voter education and inclusion, stakeholders’ needs involved in voter registration and education processes, voter education programmes, the Indian example pertaining to electoral literacy, employing technology and social media as tools of engagement with the voting populace and international practices aimed at enhancing engagement with students. Delegates from participating-EMBs presented the initiatives undertaken and the scope offered with respect to voter education programmes and strategies adopted to boost voter registration in order to increase voter turnout during elections. India). NewsLetter

The visiting electoral officials were also given a tour of Voter Facilitation Centre in New Delhi and a virtual gaming parlour- Smaaash Gurgaon, as a part of the visit.
